Monarch Grid BESS Project Update – March 2026

Dear Prairie Grove Community,

I am writing to share important updates regarding Eolian’s Monarch Grid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.

Community Webinar Opportunity
Eolian, the company proposing the Monarch Grid BESS project, has invited Prairie Grove residents to participate in an informational webinar on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 PM. I encourage you to attend and hear directly from the project proponents. Mandatory registration is available by clicking this link.

Setting the Record Straight
I want to address several items that have been circulating on social media and through other informal channels which have led to concerned residents calling the Village:

  • BESS Proposal: As of this writing, the Village has not received a formal project proposal from Eolian; nor has McHenry County, to my knowledge.
  • Data Center: There is no proposal, pending or otherwise, for a data center in Prairie Grove. Claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.
  • District 146 Solar Project: Prairie Grove School District 146 has plans to install a solar field south of the school campus to generate electricity for school use. This is an independent initiative and is unrelated to the Eolian BESS project or any data center proposal.

A Note on Information Sources
I understand that uncertainty about development projects in our community can be concerning. However, some of the information circulating on social media is inaccurate and has caused unnecessary worry among residents. I respectfully ask that you rely on communications from the Village through our official website, email notices, and letters like this one as your primary source of information on these matters.

The Village is committed to transparency. We will continue to share any information we receive through official channels as promptly as possible.

Sincerely,

David Underwood
President, Village of Prairie Grove
