2024 FALL BRUSH PICKUP SCHEDULED FOR: October 21, 2024

The Public Works Department is offering to help residents clean tree branches from their yards with the truck and chipper collecting branches stacked parallel along the front curb of residents’ properties.

This program is not intended for cleaning out dead branches from the forest and trimmings left behind by landscapers. This program is intended for larger tree branches resulting from trimming or storm damage and is not for the disposal of whole trees. No stumps or roots will be taken. All brush must be a minimum of four feet in length and between two to eight inches in diameter. Small or thin branches can cause the chipper to jam and creates a safety hazard. Please be aware that branches will be left behind if they cannot be put through the chipper safely. All other yard waste (leaves, clippings, small branches, etc…) placed in acceptable stickered containers will be picked up by Groot on your scheduled garbage day. The Village respectfully requests your cooperation with these guidelines.

Tree Preservation & Removal of Tree(s)

TREE PRESERVATION AREA: Tree preservation areas are hereby established in the front yards of each lot or parcel, corner side yards in the case of corner lots or parcels, and any side of a lot or parcel fronting on a public street for all developed properties as herein after set forth. Within the tree preservation areas, no tree greater than 12 inches in diameter, as measured at 54 inches above the ground, shall be removed except as otherwise provided. In the event of new construction, a Village approved letter of credit shall be provided at the time the building permit is issued to guarantee the replacement of the number of trees determined to be required by the Village Board or its designee.

PERMIT REQUIREMENTS, no fee to residents: Removal of a tree greater than 12 inches in diameter, as measured at 54 inches above the ground, a permit is required. Please contact the Building Department to set up a site inspection, please allow 72 hours.

Mailbox Policy

The Village of Prairie Grove adopted a mailbox policy on April 17, 2012. The purpose is during snow removal operations, many miles of roadway must be cleared and maintained for safe travel. Unfortunately, during this process, a few mailboxes may be damaged by the weight of the thrown snow and in some instances by the strike of a plow truck. The Village of Prairie Grove respects its residents' property and realizes the importance of our residents receiving mail in a timely fashion. This policy is put in place to direct Village Staff with regard to guidelines by which they can refer to when determining whether damage is the result of a snow plow truck striking a properly installed and operating mailbox.
